And so following a low purine diet is one way as to how to lower uric acid levels in the body.  So avoid foods rich in purines like organ meats, red meats, mussels, crabs, herring, anchovies, and sardine.  Vegetables like asparagus, mushroom, spinach and cauliflower are also high purine foods.  Other foods rich in purines include legumes, gravies, yeast and consommé.  Alcohol, is also rich in purine especially beer that is why it is greatly avoided for those with gout.
